121 Restaurant in North Salem reopened recently after extensive renovations. Located in the heart of northern Westchester, One Twenty One has a brand-new menu which features a varied selection of craft beer, wine, and spirits, as well as an evolving menu featuring locally grown ingredients.
One Twenty One boasts an impressive beer menu, including six draft lines and over twenty different types of bottled beer. Beer lovers will recognize breweries such as Dogfish Head, Sly Fox, Captain Lawrence, Troegs, Bronx Brewery, and Lagunitas. For those looking for something different, try the Bourbon Barrel Stout by Central Waters – the stout is aged in bourbon barrels and contains notes of bourbon, oak, vanilla, and chocolate. One Twenty One also features twenty types of white and twenty types of red wine available by both the bottle and the glass.
The cocktail list at One Twenty One focuses on classics as well as new creations. Classic cocktails include the Moscow Mule, Negroni, and Mint Julep. Absinthe fans should try the Corpse Reviver #2, which includes gin, Cointreau, and lillet in addition to absinthe. Innovative cocktails are made with interesting combinations and fresh ingredients. Try the Tennessee Cola, made with sour mash whiskey, Coke, root, plum gin, and served in a flask accompanied by a glass filled with Coca-Cola ice cubes. The Grapes of Wrath contains muddled grapes, genever, elderflower, vermouth, verjus, Prosecco, and uses frozen grapes instead of ice cubes. The Tequila Blossom is a floral, summery drink made with tequila, lemon, orange blossom water, and is served with a spherical ice cube which contains a frozen orange inside it.
The menu includes smears, salads, fish, and meat dishes. Many ingredients come from local farms in North Salem, Mount Kisco, Millbrook, and Poughkeepsie, as well as several other places in New York and Pennsylvania. The pizza at One Twenty One is not to be missed. A window in the main dining room lets the guests watch the pizza being made and cooked in the brand new wood burning stove. The oven heats to 975 degrees and can cook a pizza in ninety seconds. The pizzas are made from Neapolitan style dough and are available in different styles, including margherita, clam, asparagus, and bianca.
The recently renovated building contains a marble topped-triangular shaped bar which is surrounded by a lounge-type coffee table setup. The main dining room has been outfitted with new shutters, paint, refinished floors, a window into the kitchen, and has a bright, airy feel. The downstairs party room now has a sleek, modern design with three different types of lighting that provide an intimate atmosphere. The patio will soon be open for outdoor dining.
One Twenty One has always been a popular destination for both locals and travelers alike, and the recent renovations are sure to make this restaurant better than ever.
