‘12 Years a Slave’ wins Golden Globe for Best Picture

“12 Years a Slave” avoided going winless at the 71st Golden Globe Awards ceremony which was held Sunday night on NBC. The Steve McQueen directed film took home the trophy for Best Motion Picture Drama. McQueen accepted the award on behalf of the cast and crew and thanked everyone associated with the film.

“I’d like to thank Fox Searchlight, I’d like to thank New Regency, Plan-B thank you guys for taking a chance on this movie.”

12 Years a Slave” which stars Chiwetel Ejiofor as Solomon Northup a free man kidnapped into slavery had been up for seven Golden Globes. The nominations included Best Director (McQueen), Best Actor (Ejiofor), Best Supporting Actress (Lupita Nyong’o), Best Supporting Actor (Michael Fassbender) Best Screenplay (John Ridley) and Best Original Score (Hans Zimmer).

Actresses Amy Poehler and Tina Fey served as hosts for the 2014 Golden Globe Awards. You can see the complete list of winners at the Golden Globes website.
