'12 Years a Slave' leads movie nominations for 2014 Screen Actors Guild Awards

With four nominations, "12 Years a Slave" is the top movie contender for the 20th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards, which take place at the Shrine Auditorium on Jan. 18, 2014. The nominations were announced on Dec. 11, 2013.

TNT and TBS will telecast the ceremony at 8 p.m. EST/5 p.m. PST. An encore performance will air immediately following on TNT at 10 p.m. EST/7 p.m. PST. A live stream of the SAG Awards can also be viewed online through the TBS and TNT websites, as well as through the Watch TBS and Watch TNT apps for iOS or Android. (Viewers must sign in using their TV provider user name and password in order to view the live stream.)

"12 Years a Slave," based on the true story/memoir of enslaved Solomon Northup, is up for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture. Chiwetel Ejiofor (who plays Northup) is nominated for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Leading Role; Michael Fassbender is nominated for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Supporting Role; and Lupita Nyong'o is nominated for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Supporting Role

Other movies that picked up multiple nominations are "Dallas Buyers Club," "August: Osage County" and "Lee Daniels' The Butler," with three nominations each. "Captain Phillips," "Nebraska," "American Hustle" and the TV-movie "Behind the Candelabra" have two nominations each.

As previously announced, Rita Moreno will receive the Life Achievement Award.

The nominated theatrical movies are currently in theatrical release and will be available on VOD in early 2014. "Behind the Candelabra" is currently available on DVD, Blu-ray and VOD.

In the TV field, "Breaking Bad" is the top contender, with four nominations each.
