12-year-old abduction assaulted: Girl recants abduction, assault story

See also

A 12-year-old filed an abduction case, claiming she'd been assaulted by a "black man" in Maryland -- but it appears as though she made the whole thing up. On Dec. 12, NBC Washington reported that the young girl recanted those claims and police say that none of it ever happened!

"According to Charles County Sheriff's Office, the girl said a black man in a black van took her from outside a home on Hope Circle around 4 p.m. She said he then drove her to the area of Pierce Road, where she says she was sexually assaulted," NBC Washington reports.

The 12-year-old abduction case is closed -- she wasn't assaulted -- and police have said that they are not seeking a suspect as they believe that the girl's story was fabricated. It is unknown if police are planning on filing any charges against the girl as she not only lied to them but led them on a hunt for a suspect that didn't exist.

Cases like this are taken very seriously because there are a lot of creeps out there -- so you can imagine the concern that police had when the young girl told them about being abducted -- no word on why she made it up.

Should the 12-year-old be punished for lying about the abduction/assault?
