Twelve tons of marijuana was discovered by police after a driver of a tractor-trailer truck that was transporting electronics across state lines contacted them about two men who allegedly tried to pull him over on the road. At least one of the men flashed a badge at the truck driver, presumably impersonating a police officer. The 12 tons of marijuana had an estimated wholesale value in excess of $7 million.

According to an ABC news report from Dec. 6, 2013, it all went down on Monday before 8 a.m. Police in Tustin, Calif. received a call from someone who said that a white panel van carrying two men had confronted him on the road, pulling alongside his vehicle. The passenger of the van "…displayed an unknown type of badge on a chain around his neck and demanded the big-rig driver pull over."

The driver of the tractor-trailer truck was reportedly suspicious of the two men in the white panel van, believing that they looked "unprofessional." He pulled his vehicle into a local business. The local business had an armed security guard on duty. Police were called to the scene to investigate.

The white panel van was reportedly seen lingering in the area. However, the two men did leave the area before officers responded to the scene. The driver of the tractor-trailer truck displayed good instincts in calling the police. His feeling that the two men in the white panel van were unprofessional was accurate. There were no law enforcement agencies involved in trying to pull over the tractor-trailer truck, making it appear that the two men were indeed up to no good.

The police who responded to the scene were compelled to inspect the inventory of the tractor-trailer truck. That's when they discovered 12 tons of marijuana, which was packaged in brick and concealed within boxes among the electronics that made up the truck's cargo.

According to reports, police do not suspect that the tractor-trailer driver who contacted them to report the incident was involved with the 12 tons of marijuana.
