If you haven’t been to a bachelor auction for charity, it’s something worth putting on your calendar, even if you aren’t bidding. Forget Chippendales and bachelorette parties and find a charity bachelor auction, where the money raised supports local charities and the entertainment value is usually high.
I recently attended the Desert Cities Charity Bachelor Auction benefitting Shelter from the Storm, a place that serves 3000 women and children every year who are victims of domestic violence.
Along with an appearance from Tristan Rogers, the sexy Australian actor who played Robert Scorpio on General Hospital for 12 years, the Big White Tent hosted 12 bachelors and 12 unique date packages that were auctioned off raising $65,000 for the charity.
In it’s third year, bachelors included Santa Monica’s Ismir Mirvic who loves the film Titanic and is a fan of American Idol, to soap opera star John Callahan who spent 13 years on All My Children and now plays Dr. Baker on Days of Our Lives.
Over Man-Tini cocktails, event chair Diana Marlo introduced me to cupid couple, Graison Foster –Stemper and Trent Stemper who met during the first Bachelor Auction in 2009. “My best friend bid on bachelor Trent as a gift for me,” said Graison. The two went on a the winning date, which led to marriage.
Rocking music from ZZ Top, to Led Zeppelin’s “Whole Lotta Love” filled the room as the bachelors paraded down the catwalk tossing roses and leis to 300 women who enjoyed bidding on their dream package and guy.
Date Packages were valued up to $22,500 with trips, electronics, golf, and other luxury items. The event raised a record $65,000 for the charity as the final event for Fashion Week under the Big White Tent.
