On Saturday, June 14, 2014, the 10th annual Old 2 Gold sale will be held at the University of Notre Dame in the Notre Dame Stadium. From 7:00 to 10:00 a.m., items that students have donated at the end of the school year will be sold. Potential buyers can expect to see a myriad of everyday items donated by students, but they can also purchase high-end items from a designated boutique area.
After students finish taking finals and begin to pack up their rooms, they are strongly encouraged to donate any unwanted items that would otherwise be thrown out. Every dorm has a designated area outside where students can leave items. Everything from futons, bikes, lamps, appliances and shelves can be seen sitting on the grass in front of a dorm on move-out day. Once students leave for the summer, 43 local organizations take the time to collect and sort the items. They then receive the revenues from the sale in return for their efforts.
As the University's most significant community-based sustainability initiative, the Old 2 Gold sale is certainly something worth checking out for both students on campus during the summer and for the general public. Tickets are required for anyone older than six years of age. Tickets are $5 and will be sold outside the stadium on the day of the sale starting at 5:00 a.m. The ticket line opens at 4:30 a.m. The sale is cash only and buyers must be able to carry any items purchased. Parking is provided free of charge in parking lots near Angela Boulevard.
