10th anniversary celebration at The Marshes featured $1 million shootout

The Marshes Golf Club marked its 10th year of operations recently by hosting a huge party that was spiced up with a $1 million shootout.

“In conjunction with our 10th anniversary party, we attempted to give away $1 million,” said Andrew Donaldson, the upscale course’s head professional. “Over the month of August we randomly selected 30 participants from our tee sheet to compete in a September shootout for the right to have a shot at acing a hole for $1 million.”

The big-money competition began with a closest-to-the-pin showdown from 150 yards out on the fairway of No. 7.

“Each competitor had one shot and the wind was squirrely so club selection was key,” Donaldson said. “Out of the 30 players, three advanced with shots falling to within 14 feet. The shots belonged to Brian Geerstema, Greg Hillier and Kevin Murray.”

The trio then moved on to the million-dollar hole.

“From 170 yards on No. 9 each player again had one shot,” he said. “With drama in the air and pressure building, these three players did a great job of hitting the green but unfortunately no one walked away $1 million richer.”
