$10m in coins found in California has one couple stunned -- and totally rich. On Feb. 25, GMA reported that the California couple found a can filled with coins while hiking on a path that they were familiar with. Turns out, there were more cans where that one came from and the couple soon realized that the coins inside of the cans were made of gold.
"I never would have thought we would have found something like this. However, in a weird way I feel like I have been preparing my whole life for it," the couple said anonymously (via GMA).
The $10m in coins found in California were in the form of 1,427 coins dating from 1847 to 1894. The couple has acquired an attorney and are trying to stay out of the public eye. They found the coins last year but have been making cautious decisions about cashing them in (by way of selling them). The couple says they want to help others less fortunate with some of the money and that they do plan on selling about 90% of the coins that they found.
"We'd like to help other people with some of this money. There are people in our community who are hungry and don't have enough to eat. We'll also donate to the arts and other overlooked causes. In a way it has been good to have time between finding the coins and being able to sell them in order to prepare and adjust. It's given us an opportunity to think about how to give back," said the couple (via GMA).
