A 107-year-old man was shot and killed in an Arkansas home this week in a fatal shootout with a SWAT team. After barricading himself in the neighborhood house, officials tried to negotiate and then use gas to deter the 107-year-old, but when the man opened fire, he was gunned down, CBS reports this Sunday, Sept. 8.
The 107-year-old was shot in an Arkansas home this Saturday night following a dangerous situation between the man and a SWAT team. The officers were said to be called to the scene after a disturbance was reported and charges of aggravated assault were made.
The 107-year-old man in question, Monroe Isadore, was then said to take out a gun and point it at several of the police officers before retreating back into the house. He then was said to have barricaded himself inside an upstairs bedroom, hiding from the officers.
When the police made it to the door of the bedroom and made their presence known, the man opened fire. Law enforcement backup was immediately called in, including a SWAT team to try to negotiate with Isadore so that he might surrender peacefully.
An infiltrated camera spotted the 107-year-old man was sitting on the bed with his gun pointed at the door inside the room. Gas was then used to try to smoke out the suspect, but when it failed to deter him, he began opening fire on the officers, who in turn gunned him down.
According to the police statement:
"S.W.A.T. inserted gas into the room, after it was evident negotiations were unsuccessful, in hopes Isadore would surrender peacefully. When the gas was inserted into the room, Isadore fired rounds at the S.W.A.T. officers that had inserted the gas from outside a bedroom window … Shortly afterwards, a S.W.A.T. entry team, inside the residence, breached the door to the bedroom and threw a distraction device into the bedroom. Isadore then began to fire on the entry team and the entry team engaged Isadore, killing him."
Many of the details surrounding the 107-year-old man shot and killed, including that of the “distraction device” or gas that was used, remain unknown. Police officials are currently investigating the situation, and no other clarifying statements have been made yet.
