A 107-year-old Arkansas man was shot and killed on Saturday, September, 7, 2013 during a shootout with the Pine Bluff Police Department and a SWAT team, per the Associated Press.
Police officers responded to an aggravated assault call at a residence on W. 16th St., where Monroe Isadore threatened two people with a gun. Officers had the two unidentified people vacate the residence and approached a bedroom where Isadore was said to be.
Upon officers announcing themselves to Isadore, he opened fire at the closed door. None of the officers were hit, but retreated and called for back-up officers and a SWAT team.
Police supervisors arrived and initiated negotiations with Isadore, which continued until the SWAT team arrived. The SWAT team inserted a camera into the bedroom through a window, confirming Isadore was armed with a handgun.
After negotiations proved to be unsuccessful, gas was released into the room. Isadore retaliated by opening fire once again, forcing SWAT members to enter and return fire, which killed the 107-year-old man.
Police are still investigating the incident.
