A 107-year-old man was killed by a SWAT team on Saturday when officers could not convince the 107-year-old man to put down his handgun. The 107-year-old man from Pine Bluff in Arkansas began to fire at officers when they breached the bedroom door and threw a distraction device into the bedroom. According to a Sept. 8, 2013, THV11 report, the 107-year-old man “began to fire on the entry team and the entry team engaged Isadore, killing him.”
Around 4:25 p.m. on Saturday, the Pine Bluff Police Department received a call about a domestic disturbance at a residential home. Reportedly, the 107-year-old man had been waving a firearm at two people and threatening them.
When officers arrived at the residence, they found the 107-year-old man in his bedroom. Upon approaching the bedroom, the 107-year-old man fired one shot through the door but no one was hit. Police officers retreated and called their supervisors, backup, and a SWAT team.
Still unable to convince the 107-year-old man to give up his handgun, the officers proceeded to insert a camera through the window into the bedroom. After having confirmed that the 107-year-old man had a handgun with him and was unwilling to give it up, SWAT officers inserted gas from outside the bedroom window.
Despite the gas, the 107-year-old man still had not intent to hand over his gun.
Unable to convince the 107-year-old man to give up, the SWAT entry team breached the door to the bedroom and threw a distraction device into the bedroom.
In response to the intruders, the 107-year-old man began to fire his handgun at the entry team who shot back. The 107-year-old man was killed during the shootout.
As of Sunday, a police investigation into the shooting of the 107-year-old man is ongoing.
