We’re 101 days into the Boston Red Sox playing schedule, the team is so hot it is on pace to win 101 games, and still large chunks of the Nation seem not to be happy.
Let’s face it; this club is nothing short of terrific. It’s championship caliber, and its current standing is especially remarkable given that it started the year – as if we didn’t know – 0-6 and 2-10. That they’ve done so while missing major pieces of their starting rotation is the icing on the cake.
So why is it that so much of the viewing, listening, and writing audience is so concerned about the lack of a steady left-handed reliever and the lack of production from the now-disabled J.D. Drew? Neither of these ‘concerns’ is new, and yet the club finds itself atop the American League heap. Could it be that there’s just not that much to be truly worried about? Or maybe some people just aren’t happy unless they aren’t happy.
Perhaps it’s an after-effect of the Curse of the Bambino.
Whatever the cause, we’d all do well to remember that it really doesn’t get better than this. We’re nearly two-thirds of the way through the season, and our home town team is having its way with the competition.
Or maybe you’d prefer the hardball deep-freeze of Baltimore, Seattle, or Kansas City?
