There is little doubt that Las Vegas is the convention capitol of the world!
For the most part these extravaganza provide a unique entertainment component for many of our larger Resort Casinos.
I attend most of the major conventions in Las Vegas in search of topical or unusual content about which to write. As a photojournalist the WPPI (Wedding and Portrait Photographers International) convention was of particular interest to me. This convention includes an outstanding photographic exhibition with the latest equipment available to the professional photographer. What totally took me by surprise was an incredible non profit organization that I had not heard of until my visit to this show.
NILMDTS (Now I lay me down to sleep).
This remarkable organization with the help of 1000's of photographers around the world has a unique mission - for the past 8 years they have dedicated themselves to grieving families, offering their photographic, retouching and editing talents to provide remarkable images of both adult and infants whose life on this earth has been cut short.
Over 3500 families worldwide have received the free gift of a professional portrait of their beloved family member.
The company provides ongoing training and technical assistance to their volunteers, to better help them serve and support the families in need. To-date these photographers and volunteers have provided over five million dollars in services this past year alone.
Their dedicated Partners include parents who have benefited from the service, their friends and relatives; parents who were not aware of their service, compassionate community members, volunteers, medical personnel, funeral directors and many others from all walks of life.
They also assist medical professionals with how to use NILMDTS and how to photograph babies if a professional photographer is not available.
I am proud to say I have offered my services to this very real and important service.
If you feel this is a project that you would like to support and embrace you will find all the details on their web site "now i lay me down to sleep"
