If you diet regularly, then honey, I feel your pain. As much as we all know that certain diet plans are doomed to fail, we still can't resist, can we?
"Maybe there is some sort of magic power in peanut butter," we think to ourselves. Or, "It's not so hard rendering a chicken into three gallons of broth," as we slave over a stove to conform to a complicated meal plan.
If only we could spot a dud diet before we even began.
While they might not stop you from trying the next great miracle, these tips might make you think twice before you start another fad diet.
Ten Ways to Know You're on the Wrong Diet
1. The word "cabbage" is in the name of the diet.
2. The last celebrity you remember endorsing the diet plan is not just fat again, but fatter (and The Enquirer's got the bikini pictures to prove it.)
3. It has the name of a geographical location in it (e.g. South Beach Women Don't Get Fat)
4. One of your favorite foods is so forbidden that you're not even allowed to say words that begin with the same letter, much less indulge now and then.
5. The plan's diet-approved bars appear to be made out of the stuff that lines your son's hamster cage.
6. You need a degree in calculus to add up the various grams and calories.
7. You've gained 7 lbs. since the day you started it (which was yesterday.)
8. You're so hungry at work after lunchtime that you take care of the mail just to get to lick some stamps.
9. Lunch consists of a grape stem and three sniffs of a bottle of fat free dressing.
10. The before and after photos are so obviously photoshopped, the model changes height, hair color, and race from photo to photo.
Joking aside, the next time you're thinking about a new diet plan, do some research. You can compare diet plans online at Health.com. How about this time you just try eating sensibly and exercising?
