10 Things you need to know to stay fit for life #10

10 Things you need to know to stay fit for life. #10

I am 61 years old and I look better than you. I am more fit, more flexible, more virile and stronger than 99% of the people in America over 40 years of age. How did I get that way? How can you get that way and more importantly; how can you stay in great shape for 61 years? How do you stay Fit For Life?

I believe that lifetime fitness is a multifaceted program that has 10 key components. In the next few weeks I will be discussing the 10 secrets you need to know to stay fit for life.

  2. Lifting Weights or using Resistance Training
  3. Nutrition

  6. Breathing
  7. Flexibility Secrets
  8. Work your Abs everyday
  9. Vitamins and Supplements
  10. Sharing your knowledge and training

# 10 Sharing your knowledge and training

One of the best ways to get fit and stay fit for life is to work out with a buddy or a work out partner. I have always found that I get a better and harder workout when I have someone pushing me and working with me. It just seems to motivate me to work harder and longer, and when I am doing heavy weights it is actually quite necessary for safety. I suggest that you make a friend at the club or bring a friend to the club and work out with them.

Here is a great tip to save you $300 to $1,000 a month. Fire your trainer, buy or rent a DVD on the specific exercises programs you want and pay your friends membership in the club and work out with them following the routine of the DVD. You will almost always find that the instruction on the DVD is superior to the instruction with the trainer. But I am not saying that you should not work out with a trainer, but I am saying that there are a lot of trainers out there in the bigger health clubs that simply don’t know enough to be qualified to train you.

Most people do not realize that to be a “personal trainer” all you have to do is attend a 3 day or 2 week class and take a $500 to $700 test. It is that easy. You don’t need to go to college, in fact if you want to be a personal trainer and have spent the 5 to 6 years of time and the huge amount of money to get a Masters Degree in Kinesiology, or Fitness or any sports related field you are not qualified to be a “personal trainer” that is recognized by the big training companies. These companies want you to know they  are sure that their 3 day program is really all you need to know to allow you to train people and is much better than your 6 years of College. I don’t think so, but there is nothing you or I can do about it. The Personal Training Industry is a controlled business run by a few companies who have arbitrarily made up what the requirements are for being a Personal Trainer and who charge insane amounts of money to take a written test. They do have some great info they pass on, but I personally don’t believe that the 3 day class offered by the big 5 training companies is really more qualified to give you the training you need to be a Personal Trainer than 5 years of college. Of course, I could be wrong, but I tend to be reassured in my belief when I see the fat out of shape 20 year old trainers who are purporting to be able to make you look great, when they look so bad themselves.

Now back to sharing your knowledge and training. I believe that after you have lifted weights for a few years and trained diligently for even more you certainly are qualified to work out with a buddy and share you knowledge. I believe it is actually your obligation to share what you have learned with those around you who don’t know as much and who want and need some help. I have always found I learn a lot more by teaching and helping others than I do by working out alone. Share your knowledge, work out with a partner, offer to help those in the club who are new and need help. Go to a school and help train the young people. Work out with new people whenever you can and share and exchange your knowledge.

If you want to get fit and stay fit for life you have to make a commitment for life to training and one of the most effective ways to get and maintain your lifetime fitness is to work out with a partner to share your knowledge and training with.
