In today's lexicon, the term "rock star" is a figurative expression used to identify someone who is great at what they do. For example, if you're a "rock star" of plumbers, then you likely fix leaks and clean pipes better than the rest.
In my writings and talks, I take this concept a step further and describe it as a way of life. I refer to this as the RockStarWay™ - it's a lifestyle that encourages people to be the best at what they do the best. The RockStarWay™ is about getting the best possible end results by embracing and executing several key areas.
Here are 10 tenets (principles):
1) Rock stars strive to be great communicators - All transactions with people, places, and things begin and end with communication in all of its various forms. Great communication is complex, multifaceted, and requires hard work to master. Intuitively understanding and applying the art and science of "Communichology" is the RockStarWay™.
2) Rock stars don't get lucky, they influence outcomes - The intersection of preparation and opportunity is where rock stars consciously place themselves more often than not. Understanding that "success" and "failure" is largely your own fault is the RockStarWay™.
3) Rock stars are compassionate - Those who put others first, rarely finish last. Extending an uplifting and encouraging attitude toward others is contagious. Caring for more than just yourself, your stuff, and the center of your universe is the RockStarWay™.
4) Rock stars are open to learning - The smartest in the room know what they don't know. Wisdom is the recognition that there may be more or less to learn or unlearn. Answering "yes" to the "is it possible" question is the RockStarWay™.
5) Rock stars accept responsibility - Excuses must become extinct. It's those who stop blaming everything that truly start becoming something. Admitting mistakes and owning your own honesty is the RockStarWay™.
6) Rock stars can roll with the changes - A person's success is proportional to the amount of change they can endure. Being flexible is more than nice; it's necessary. The ability to adjust on-the-fly and in-the-moment is the RockStarWay™.
7) Rock stars seek solutions - Living in problems only perpetuates them. Recognizing what's wrong and then resolving to solve is the RockStarWay™.
8) Rock stars say please, thank you, excuse me, and I’m sorry - Demonstrating proper etiquette is a lost art among many. Being polite, pleasant and apologetic when necessary is the RockStarWay™.
9) Rock stars are emotionally intelligent - Beyond reading, writing, and arithmetic, it's much harder to be smarter emotionally. Being tuned-into and aware of both your own, as well as others' emotional states is the RockStarWay™.
10) Rock stars are persuasive - Make people feel and they will follow. Master human relations skills. The ability to positively influence action and direction in others is the RockStarWay™.
Are you a RockStar?
Stay tuned-in...
