In today's busy world, we are all a little bit stressed much of the time. Too much to do and not enough time to do it all seems to be common for parents these days.

You can slow down. push away the stress and embrace the moment by listening to Christian music. Christian radio station Spirit FM in central Virginia began a 30-day challenge on New Year's Day.

The station pledged that listeners will gain "a lighter heart, a more positive mindset, and an increasingly joyful spirit" by listening only to Spirit FM for 30 days.

Here are 10 reasons for parents to listen to Christian music.

Listening to Christian music sets a good example for your children. Kids often learn the songs that are on the radio when your family is in the car. Wouldn't you rather have your kids rocking the Christian rock?

Christian music is uplifting. The words from the songs lift you up, even when you're tired, sad, feeling alone or afraid. As you hear the songs, you can feel God's love.

We are called to worship God in song. All through the Bible, there are references to singing praise to God including these words from Psalm 95:1. Oh come, let us sing to the Lord; let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation!

Christian music changes your outlook on life. Instead of looking at the negative things in your life, you will be more focused on God's great love for you.

When you listen to or sing along with Christian music, you are praying. The words of many of the songs are taken from passages in the Bible.

You can put an end to the road rage mentality that hits many people when in traffic. Let the nation stop around you as glorious songs of praise to God fill your car.

Take Christian music a step further by playing it while you're at work, if permitted. Bringing God's message to your coworkers with song is a form of evangelizing.

Let Christian music play in the background as you work around your house. Use your radio, CD player or iPod or set your computer up to play your favorite station at home.

Christian music can help you whether you are raising your voice in praise, thanksgiving, joy, sorrow or supplication. The time is always right to listen to Christian music.

Listening to Christian music may help you be more be more merciful and forgiving. Every day, you face challenges and struggles that can make you feel angry, hurt and alone. Let God help quiet your soul and refresh you.
