As we come to the end of 2013 I wanted to look back over the year and give a few of my favorite albums of the year. There are going to be some that were over looked, some that were under rated, and others that truly broke out into the industry. This list is in no particular order, but every album on this list should be in your iTunes.
Heartthrob - Tegan And Sara
It is no secret I have been a long time fan of Tegan And Sara. This album is absolutely fantastic, I own every album they have released and to see where they came from to where they are is just a great thing. They are easily one of the most under rated artists out there.
The 20/20 Experience - Justin Timberlake
I don't think I really need to give an explanation as to why this is on the list. Timberlake is easily one of the most talented people of our generation.
Tape Deck Heart - Frank Turner
Trouble Will Find Me - The National
If you are a fan of indie melodic rock this is the album you must have. The National has been around for years and it is great to see them finally getting some of the recognition that they have deserved for awhile.
Random Access Memories - Daft Punk
The Blessed Unrest - Sara Bareilles
Sara has done it again. I've enjoyed every album that she has put out and this one is no different, it is a solid album all around.
Days Are Gone - Haim
This album is quite good. It has a very retro feel, the girls are often compared to Fleetwood Mac, and while you can hear a bit of that styling. As you listen to the album however you do get a folk rock feel with a bit of R&B mixed in.
Pure Heroine - Lorde
This album was relatively under the radar until Royals began playing everywhere. It is a great album all around and if you have only heard Royals then you are missing out and need to pick up the rest of the album.
The Marshall Mathers LP 2 - Eminem
I dare you to name a better hip hop artist currently putting out music. Eminem came back with this album and showed the world it isn't all about gimmicks and hip hop isn't all about terrible rhymes and how much "bling" you have.
Bangerz - Miley Cyrus
I really enjoy this album. Say what you will about Miley and her actions, or her videos, the girl has some incredible talent. I can honestly say that I get what she is doing, I understand the desire to break away from the image that people have refused to let her shed in the time since her Disney career. Miley is not the first to go through a drastic transformation in her career, look back at Christina Aguilera, Britney Spears, and even Madonna, they all went through extremely drastic changes through out their carrer. Given the time I think people will look back retrospectively and acknowledge the evolution of Miley, and maybe even see her as classic or iconic as they do with Christina, Britney, and Madonna.
