Like an Italian wedding banquet, the courses just keep coming. April in Boston local food education and programming is lining up to be an even bigger buffet than March.
The 10 suggestions below are made with food entrepreneurs and career-seekers in mind but, of course, if you eat food and live here, you are part of the Boston local food system.

Community Table Boston is a weekly Thursday series, this week featuring Megan Lehnerd and Wendy Mainardi of Tufts Friedman who are working on an ambitious project to map the Massachusetts food system. From 10-11:30 a.m. at Babson Boston. Free.
Saturday, March 29 | Future of Food and Nutrition Conference at Tufts Friedman | Boston
Now in its eighth year, the Future of Food and Nutrition Conference is a platform for graduate students across disciplines from around the country to submit and present original research relating to the food system and/or nutrition science. Last year, more than 200 students gathered to hear presentations from 30 universities on topics as diverse as anthropology and nutritional epidemiology. From 9 a.m. -5:00 p.m. Register here. Friday, April 4 | “The Meat We Eat” at Harvard Law School | Harvard Square
Exploring the legal and policy aspects of industrial animal farming and related effects on public health, the environment, and animal welfare, this forum will bring together a host of authorities to raise discussion on a number of pressing questions, including: How does the U.S. currently regulate animal farming, what are the barriers to reform, and what can be done to strengthen protections for consumers, animals, and nearby communities? Hosted by Harvard Food Law Society and Harvard Law School’s Student Animal Legal Defense Fund (SALDF). From 1-7:30 p.m. FREE for students, $10 for others.
Sunday, April 6 | Visit Eastleigh, A True New England Farm | Framingham, MA
Over a hundred years old, Eastleigh Farm is one of only places in Massachusetts to buy raw milk. Last month, the farm suffered a terrible building collapse that trapped many cows, killing some. This half-day farm visit is designed to grow awareness and understanding of the distinctions of raw milk, state regulation, and understanding of the dairy industry overall. From 9:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. $65 adults, $35 children (all event revenue will be donated to the farm).
Wednesday, April 9 | Boston Snack Down | Downtown Boston
Promoting Natural Prophets published last month by Rodale, Joe Dobrow is hosting “Boston Snack Down: Past, Present and Future of Natural Foods in Beantown” with Trish Karter of Dancing Deer and Gordon Boggis of UNREAL. Co-sponsored by Food Sol at Babson College with proceeds benefiting New Entry Sustainable Farming Project, Nixon Peabody (100 Summer Street). 6 p.m. $10 online.
Thursday, April 17 | Quick Service Incubator | Downtown Boston
The Quick Service Incubator gets its name from quick-service dining. It’s fast. Two Boston local food businesses, Cocomama Foods and 88 acres, will each have two minutes on the clock to pitch a challenge they are facing. Then the audience and a panel of guest experts have ten minutes to brainstorm feedback and ideas to solve the challenge. Fun, fast-paced, creative and efficient, the Incubator is a taste of Babson’s “secret sauce” of teaching entrepreneurship. Nixon Peabody (100 Summer Street). Tuesday, April 22 | Sustainability UnConference | Seaport District, Boston
For Earth Day, Cambridge Innovation Center, EcoMotion, HUB Boston, and Venture Café are banding together for Sustainability unConference 2014. (An unConference is where the attendees make it all happen.) There will be a section on food systems. From 5-10:00 p.m. at District Hall (75 Northern Avenue). Saturday, April 26 | HackFood+Ag 2014 at MIT | Kendall Square
The first ever HackFood+Ag at MIT will galvanize creative, food-focused minds across engineering, science, programming, urban planning and business from MIT, Harvard, Tufts and Babson, among others. Across disciplines, teams will collaborate on innovative solutions in Urban Agriculture, Food Waste, Financing Sustainable Food and Ag and Local Food Systems. An overarching theme will be big data and analytics. The HackFood+Ag will be proceeded by landscape familiarization panel sessions on Tuesday April 15 and Wednesday April 23. Co-hosted by MIT Food&Ag Club, Sloan Entrepreneurship & Innovation Club, Sloan Net Impact Club, and Sloan Happy Belly Club. From 8 a.m.-8:00 pm. Free.
Tuesday, April 29 | Slow Money Boston Entrepreneur Showcase | Kendall Square
Applications to pitch are due this Friday, March 28. The showcase itself, hosted by Slow Money Boston, brings together investors, sustainable food entrepreneurs and leaders all focused on the local food system. Cambridge Innovation Center (One Broadway). In addition to hearing about new and emergent Boston area food startups, this is a great “watering hole” for networking. From 6-9:00 p.m. $20.
