Least favorite household chore: Cleaning toilets
Least favorite subject in school: Math!
Favorite childhood book: Tie between A Wrinkle in Time and Harriet the Spy
Pool or beach? Beach, of course
One of your biggest pet peeves: Tie between people spitting on the sidewalk and people throwing trash out of their car windows
Something you'd change about yourself if you could: I would make myself more of an extrovert with better social skills. Social skills would come in handy in the public relations profession and for a novelist
Favorite part of the writing process? When the scene takes over and seems to write itself. Characters show up fully formed and start talking and I don’t even know where they came from. There’s nothing like it.
The best vacation you've ever taken: A few years ago we packed up our two kids, who were in middle school then, and drove from San Antonio, Texas, to South Dakota to Mt. Rushmore. We stopped in Kansas on the way and visited my sister’s farm and saw my folks. We spent about five days visiting Mount Rushmore and the badlands, then drove back. It wasn’t really about the destination, but the journey. We enjoyed each other’s company and exploring places none of us and seen before. It was a huge adventure.
Book on your nightstand: One Was a Soldier by Julia Spencer-Fleming
The last movie you watched: We Bought a Zoo (great family movie, plus it’s Matt Damon!)
