The Ramsey County Sheriff’s Department has just released a new wanted poster in the hopes of finding Lyle Marvin “Ty” Hoffman. Hoffman, 44, is wanted in connection with the shooting of his former business partner and boyfriend, Kelly Phillips. The shooting occurred shortly after 9:00 a.m. on August 11 in a BMW parked at a Holiday gas station parking lot located near Highway 96 and Round Lake Road in Arden Hills.

Witnesses report that they saw the two men arguing in the car. They saw one man, who has been identified as Phillips, get out of the backseat and start running. After this they saw the driver, who has been identified as Hoffman, get out of the driver’s seat, shoot Phillips in the back, and then walk over to him and shoot him twice in the head. It has further been reported that the man identified as Hoffman returned to the vehicle, ran over the body of Phillips, and sped off. The witnesses promptly called the police and reported the incident, but the police did not know the whereabouts of the vehicle until it was found abandoned in Blaine some time after 11:00 on Monday night. The gun has not yet been recovered.

It appears that Ty Hoffman and Kelly Phillips had both a romantic relationship and a business partnership. They opened “Lush Food Bar” located at 990 Central Avenue N.E. in July of 2009. Phillips was the vice president and general counsel for Boston Scientific, and he had hired Hoffman to manage Lush. After Phillips and Hoffman broke up, Phillips started seeing a new man, Nathon Bailey and had recently announced that they were engaged to be married at the end of August. Employees of the restaurant say that Phillips was unhappy with Hoffman’s work performance and that Hoffman was about to lose his job. Phillips also owned the home where Hoffman was a renter, so it appears that their break-up was not only affecting Hoffman’s romantic life, but also his job and his place of residence.

Investigators say that they have leads that Hoffman may have left the state of Minnesota, so they want anyone who sees the wanted poster to pass it on through social media. Hoffman has been charged with second degree murder.
The website for Lush describes the restaurant as a “gay friendly environment,” and does not make any comments regarding the recent death of Phillips.
