1 million free McMuffins will be given out by McDonald's. On March 14, Vibe reported that McDonald's in China will give away 1 million McMuffins for free as part of a "positive PR move" that should make some people feel better about the company in general. While some think that McDonald's has ulterior motives, the company is supposedly just doing something nice for its consumers.
"The free McMuffins giveaway will coincide with World Consumer Rights Day, wherein Chinese state TV will air an exposé Friday on companies accused of violating worker rights," Vibe reports. McDonald's says that the timing of their giveaway and World Consumer Rights Day is just a "coincidence."
1 million free McMuffins will go to any one who visits one of the participating locations on Monday, March 18. According to N2 Bolivar, another 2 million McMuffins will be given away in other countries on the same day (like Taiwan). It certainly sounds like McDonald's is reaching out to its customers. These freebies are a nice treat for any one who wants a piece of the free pie, er breakfast sandwiches.
"McDonald's was included in the corporate shaming last year, but claims the timing of the 1 million free McMuffin giveaway is purely coincidental" (Vibe). Do you think McDonald's is doing this giveaway on purpose, given the timing?
1 million free McMuffins will be gone quickly if the word spreads. How long do you think it will take for McDonald's to "sell out" of 1 million free McMuffins?
