1 arrested after 3 stomp man until he was unconscious in Five Points

Three men beat and stumped a man until he was unconscious last month in Five Points. And on Monday police said they have arrested one of the men they believe was involved in the mob attack.

Mr. Donnell Rashied Burney, 20, was charged with second-degree assault by a mob, according to Columbia police.

Police have not yet determined the identities of the other two suspects.

Investigators said Mr. Burney and two other suspects allegedly fought with the victim in front of 805 Harden St. shortly after 2 a.m. on Feb. 16

“Burney is accused of striking the victim in his head and face area, throwing the victim on the ground and kicking him in his face and head area,” police spokeswoman Ms. Jeniffer Timmons said.

“As a result, the victim lost consciousness and suffered from a fractured jaw.”

The victim, whose name has not been released, was transported to a local hospital for treatment.

Mr. Burney was transported to the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center, Ms. Timmons said.
