The "Misfits" blew the roof off the KNIT in Reno on Thursday November 11, 2010.
The Misfits are an American rock band often recognized as the progenitors of the horror punk subgenre, blending punk rock and other musical influences with horror film themes and imagery. Founded in 1977 in Lodi, New Jersey by singer and songwriter Glenn Danzig, the group had a fluctuating lineup during its first six years with Danzig and bassist Jerry Only as the only consistent members. During this time they released several EPs and singles and, with Only's brother Doyle as guitarist, the albums Walk Among Us (1982) and Earth A.D./Wolfs Blood (1983), both considered touchstones of the early-1980s hardcore punk movement. The Misfits disbanded in 1983 and Danzig went on to form Samhain and then Danzig. Several albums of reissued and previously unreleased material were issued after the group's dissolution, and their music became influential to punk rock, heavy metal, and alternative rock music of the late 1990s and early 2000s.
After a series of legal battles with Danzig, Only and Doyle regained the rights to record and perform as the Misfits. They formed a new version of the band in 1995 with singer Michale Graves and drummer Dr. Chud. This incarnation of the Misfits had a sound much more rooted in heavy metal and released the albums American Psycho (1997) and Famous Monsters (1999) before dissolving in 2000. Jerry Only then took over lead vocals and recruited former Black Flag guitarist Dez Cadena and former Ramones drummer Marky Ramone for a Misfits 25th Anniversary tour. This lineup released an album of cover songs entitled Project 1950 and toured for several years. In 2005 Ramone was replaced by Robo, who had played with Black Flag in the early 1980s and had also previously been the Misfits' drummer from 1982 to 1983. (from wikipedia)
Still touring on their lasted album "Land of the Dead" released in 2009. This show was an ear-ringer (very loud) and very high engery, the mosh pit was in full swing, at least 10 fans tried to jump on stage but none made it, all they got was a ticket right out the door. (hats off to the knit security, they never let it get to much out of control).
They played about 90 minutes and a bunch of songs that spands their entire history such as, "We Are 138", "Halloween", "Saturday Night", "Vampira", "20 Eyes", "From Hell They Came", "Dig Up Her Bones", "Horror Hotel", "Hollywood Babylon", "Desending Angel" and "Land Of The Dead" just to name a few.
As this examiner shook Jerry Only's hand after the show, I said, "You guys were very good tonight". And Jerry replied, "We are getting better every night, One day we'll be #1.... (very cool)
After 30+ years The Misfits still know how to ROCK the joint !!!! Very impressive.
Opening for The Misfits were, "JuiceheaD" and local favorite "Demension 13"
"JuiceheaD" played about 45 minutes and 12 songs.
Ready, aimed and focused power-punk trio, Rob Vannice (Guitar & Vocals), Tommy Kloss (Bass) and Mike Garelli (drums) had already taken their hometown of Chicago by storm before launching worldwide on Misfits Records. Taking their punk rock assault to the masses, their impressive 16-track DIY debut, "The Devil Made Me Do It", came packed with face-ripping guitar muscle, sing-along hooks and a sonic rhythm section that demolishes buildings in its wake!
Armed with a hard, aggressive melodic arsenal and thought provoking lyrics, JuiceheaD defines the new breed of American punk rock. Their music is infectious, contagious and packs enough punch to satisfy most old school punk rock fans, while simultaneously delivering a universal sound that any enlightened music fan will truly appreciate.
Formed in late 2003, JuiceheaD forged from the ashes of several local punk bands and fused a unique union of skilled playing and solid song writing. Rob Vannice had been active in the Chicago underground since 2000 in various bands, but found a secret weapon in Tommy Kloss, a classically trained guitarist turned bass player with who he had been honing the JuiceheaD sound. With the addition of Mike Garelli on drums, the three-piece catapulted into ear bleeding abandon and reached the next level. JuiceheaD has toured all across North America including the Misfits Records’ Fiend Fest tour, several regional and national treks with surf-punk pioneers Agent Orange, and most recently a two-month nationwide tour as primary support for the legendary Misfits. Their set went like this,
"Long Way Down", "American Dream", "Knowledge", "Rotting From The Inside", "Death To Democracy", "Open Sore", "Better Days", "lorraine", "A Fire That Always Burns", "Disenchanted Youth", "Internal Bleeding", and "Covered In Blood".
And starting the night off was local metal band "Demension 13".
Demension 13 was started by Joe Sands (former guitarist for The Magic Nose Goblins) and Steven Morris (now Stephan Dement) (former singer for local band Vicious Cycle and other current project Envirusment – www.myspace.com/envirusment) back in Oct. 2007 in Reno, Nevada. Tommy Yoder (former bass player for Katlick Christy) and Ty Hagar (former drummer of The Magic Nose Goblins) later replaced two original members in Feb. 2008. After releasing a 5 song ep D13 has over 150 shows played and has opened up for W.A.S.P., Death Angel, Paul Dianno, The Misfits, The Iron Maidens and Dirty Penny.
Demension 13 has also participated in several fund raising events for, “The Sierra Safari Zoo” and “Brianna Denison Benefit” in Reno. They are the master minds of the “BFE Metalfest” formally known as “Moon rock Metal Festival” which is an all age camp-out in a secret location out in the desert where the stage is built, generators brought, and a massive sound system. Into it's third year last year's attendance nearly topped 400. It's been called the “Heavy Metal Version” of “Burning Man”.
Demension 13 music is an atmospheric blend of Punk and Thrash with psychedelic solos and rhythms. Steven's vocals have been compared to a young Glenn Danzig and King Diamond. They have been compared to Black Sabbath and Pantera but not sounding like either one. The lyric writing touches on subjects of religion, inner demons, addiction, human behavior and politics. Their set lasted 30 minutes and they really got the crowd of over 400 ready to rock, (to bad they did not have more stage time, in this examiners opinion they stole the show over JuiceheaD).

After the show all three bands took photos, signed autographs and chatted with the fans. I've said it before, "This is why The KNIT ROCKS" !!!!
