Denver Botanic Gardens opens the Orchid Showcase today, January 9, spotlighting more than 200 orchid plants with more than 1,000 orchid blossoms in dramatic arrangements. The Orchid Showcase is free with admission to Denver Botanic Gardens, open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The elegant orchids, on display through February 24, thrive in Boettcher Memorial Tropical Conservatory, Marnie's Pavilion and the Orangery, providing a welcome respite from the cold, dark, winter. Educational opportunities include orchid repotting demonstrations and other orchid cultivation tips from the Denver Orchid Society and Denver Botanic Gardens horticulturists. To help demystify these exotic plants, orchid repotting demonstrations are scheduled for Saturdays and Sundays during the Showcase at 12:30 p.m. in Marnie's Pavilion.
Marnie's Pavillion includes water features and tropical plants that give visitors a sense of the tropics in the Mile High City. If you go, be sure to take in the beautiful video display about orchids, situated between two orchid showcases in Marnie's Pavillion.
And make time to stop in the Denver Botanic Gardens' Helen Fowler Library, too.
