Fall 2010 District Sample Sale to benefit Mobile Mammography Program

The District Sample Sale (DSS) - the twice-annual fundraising event staged by the District Sample Sale Foundation (501c3 organization) opened doors to hundreds of DC Area fashionistas and cause supporters on September 16, 2010 at the stylish Cady's Alley in Georgetown.

The District Sample Sale Founders and organizing Committee - Mary Schmidt Amons, Shannon Haley, Liberty Jones, Barbara Martin, Jayne Sandman and their staff welcomed over two dozen area stores, nine area restaurants, sponsors and attendees, all for a good cause to raise awareness and support the GW Medical Center's Mobile Mammography Program (GW Mammovan).

The Mobile Mammography program is the first and only such program in the DC area. Accredited by the American College of Radiology, the program provides state-of-the-art, digital mammography screenings to women in the District of Columbia, Maryland and Northern Virginia. The program has screened nearly 19,000 people in the region since its inception and more than 71 women have been diagnosed with breast cancer on the Mammovan.

Predominantly, the event attracted women who were not shy of trying new outfits in hopes of getting a stylish designer bargain - $120 shoes or a $180 runway dress with sparkling jewels, although menswear options were also plentiful! The event featured a complementary open bar and hip music by DJ Neekola, manicures and chair messages, hair updo demonstrations and make up applications, and a photo box captured the moments of shopping joy.
