Art in Pilsen pt 2.

This is the second installment to one of my favorite hoods in Chicago, Pilsen.  By now, my handy photographer Hernando Orozco  and I are on Cullerton (19th st.) and Wood about to leave Rahmaan's studio.  Fully relieved that I didn't pee in my pants, Hernando and I trek on.

Hector Daurte, who owns the studio that Rahmaan inhabits is also an amazing old school muralist.  All this man needs is a paint brush and paint.  No grids, no computers, no fancy measuring gizmo's.  Dude is a freak of nature...I'm jealous.

Jeff Zimmerman.  Another art hero of mine is another amazing artist who has a ton of large scale murals under his belt around Chicago and abroad.

Near Blue Island and Wood.

Near Ashland and 21st st.

Crowded Thoughts crew.

In an alley right around the corner.  I would like to have seen Vega on the wall.

Jeff Zimmerman.

Are you starting to recognize a similarity here?

Wait for the bus, get an elote and check out the mural over on Ashland and 20th or so.

Jeff Zimmerman.  This man makes me insecure as to the amount of talent and dedication he has to art.  I must kill him.

Beon and Like.

Hyde SB.

This is where the journey ends for now.  There were some murals that I know I missed.  And you can spend a good 8 hours walking around Pilsen and seeing something that even the residents may not know about.  Pilsen is full of color although it may not look like it initially, don't be deterred because you'll be immersed in a world you never knew existed just minutes from Downtown Chicago.  18th and Halsted down to 22nd has a bevy of galleries, cafe's, and liquor stores...a little something for everybody!  I want to thank Hernando Orozco of Orozco Photography for all of the pictures and most importantly, a taco lunch.
