Arthouse, an art space dedicated to promoting the growth and appreciation of contemporary art and artists, announced today that it will host its Tenth Anniversary Five x Seven Fundraiser and Party, presented by Four Hands Home, on Friday, May 15, 2009 at its 700 Congress Avenue home, the Jones Center. Tickets are $125 each. The evening will feature catering by Ranch 616 (who has generously supported the event for 10 years) and drinks by Real Ale, Savvy Vodka, Twin Liquors and Capital Beverage.
Following the ticketed party, the Five x Seven exhibition and sale continues on view, free and open to the public, May 16-31, 2009.
Five x Seven will feature more than 1,000 5-inch by 7-inch original works of art generously donated by over 700 emerging and established artists with strong ties to Arthouse or Texas. Some of the participating artists include David Aylsworth (Houston), Sharon Engelstein (Houston), Kelly Fearing (Austin), Tony Feher (New York), Fritz Haeg (Los Angeles), Jill Pangallo (Austin) and Michael Sieben (Austin). A full list of participating artists, with links to their web sites, may be found at www.arthousetexas.org.
In celebration of Five x Seven's 10th Anniversary, Arthouse has asked a few artists with whom the organization has an especially close working relationship, to create 8x10 inch works which will be included in a silent auction on May 15. Those artists include: Jabari Anderson (Houston), Margarita Cabrera (El Paso), Sarah Canright (Austin), Peat Duggins (Cambridge, MA), Faith Gay (Austin), Eileen Maxson (Amsterdam), Melissa Miller (Austin), Katrina Moorhead (Houston), Nic Nicosia (Santa Fe), Robyn O'Neil (Houston), Graydon Parrish (Austin), Dario Robleto (Houston), Ludwig Schwarz (Dallas), and Michael Smith (Austin).
Arthouse continues the 10th Anniversary celebration with a variety of promotions. Arthouse members receive 10% off purchases of 5x7 inch works; fundraiser attendees who buy 10 5x7 inch works will receive one additional 5x7 inch work free; attendees buying 10 raffle tickets (at $10 each) will receive an additional ticket for free.
Chaired by Arthouse supporters Alisa Weldon (L Style G Style & well+done DESIGN), Sharon Gerhardt (Whole Foods Market) and Oliver Everette (L Style G Style), the Five x Seven Party gives attendees a chance to purchase any of the 5x7 works for $100 each, before the exhibition opens to the public. Unlike traditional exhibitions and art sales where purchasers know who created the piece they’re buying, the 5x7 works will be displayed anonymously for viewing. Buyers will discover the creators of the works only after the pieces have been purchased.
“Our goal is to encourage the 5x7 buyers to select pieces completely for the love of the art, without any preconceptions about the artists,” said Sue Graze, Arthouse Executive Director. “It’s a great opportunity to let your appreciation of art take hold and discover new artists.”
In appreciation of their donation, participating artists receive a one-year membership to Arthouse. Additionally, on May 14, there will be a special preview party, generously underwritten by Jeanne and Michael Klein, exclusively for participating artists and their guests. Catering will be provided by Galaxy Cafe and Zocalo Taqueria with desserts by Whole Foods Market.
Tickets to the Five x Seven Tenth Anniversary Fundraiser may be purchased for $125, online at www.arthousetexas.org, or by calling 512.453.5312. Five x Seven has sold out in recent years so purchasing tickets in advance is recommended.
