An opening reception at 7 to 10 p.m. today at Visual Art Studio for a new ceramics show features “Golden Brown” by Robert Fugate.
In celebration of the gallery’s 12th year on Broad Street as of next month, one piece of work has been chosen each month for the past year as the “Masterpiece.”
Fugate’s ceramic piece is the last in the series and eligible for a 12 percent off discount.
The reception will coincide with First Fridays Art Walk celebrations at the gallery, during which My Son the Doctor will perform music.
The ceramic pieces, also including work by Cindy Walker, will be on display through January, or until all pieces are sold, Chay (pronounced “ch-eye”, like chai tea) said.
Walker’s dragonfly mirror pieces are well known in the Richmond area, according to Chay. In the spring of 2006, Walker had six or seven 24-inch mirrors for sale at Visual Art Studio for $300 each.
Chay later received requests from patrons for smaller mirrors. Walker’s 12-inch dragonfly mirrors are now available in the gallery for $100 each.
As with the original pieces from 2006, the smaller mirrors contain hand-made stain glass which Walker, formerly of Richmond and now living in Tulsa, OK, acquires from a local artist.
Visual Art Studio is located at 208 West Broad Street and can be reached at 804/644-1368. Gallery hours are Tuesday-Friday, noon to 6 p.m. and Saturday, noon to 4 p.m.
