Todd Traub, 46, is a 19-year veteran of sports journalism, joining the then Arkansas Democrat in 1990 fresh from a four-year enlistment in the United States Air Force. He was the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette's backup beat writer for the Arkansas Travelers, of the Class AA Texas League, for several years before assuming the beat full-time in 2000. The Travelers led him to spring training in Florida and Arizona and to the newspaper archives where he researched his Travelers history The Last At-Bat, published by the Democrat-Gazette in 2006.
