Former Arkansas Razorback Brandon Burlsworth's story to be told on the big screen

Book Cover:  Through the Eyes of a Champion

Rumors about a movie release on the life of former Arkansas Razorback football great Brandon Burlsworth continue creeping up in headlines all over the state … and plans seem to be well underway. The movie, with the current title Greater: The Brandon Burlsworth Story, about the Arkansas boy behind the big black glasses is scheduled for release next fall according to the movie’s website.

The website also suggests the film is being co-written by Arkansas native and Razorback alum Brian Reindl and legendary screenwriter Angelo Pizzo, the award-winning writer of Hoosiers and Rudy.

Hog fans can’t forget the story of Burlsworth, a tough kid with the odds stacked against him who made a name for himself both on and off the football field as an Arkansas Razorback. Just 11 days after being drafted by the Indianapolis Colts, Burlsworth died in a car accident near his hometown of Harrison, Arkansas. Since his death, his family has established the Brandon Burlsworth Foundation, investing in a number of charitable events and scholarships, but most importantly teaching children the Burls’ Way.

Will we see the Brandon Burlsworth story on the big screen? Only time will tell.

I am a Michigan fan and remember Brandon from his Citrus Bowl match-up against my Wolverines. I was there the day he played his last game for the Razorbacks. I remember several Razorbacks from that game. Our Detoit paper had a feature on him as I recall and it was impressive to say the least!

I am actually cousins with Brandon Burlsworth, and I am grateful to the people who have helped make his name known. Thank you. I am proud to call Brandon my cousin, and I wish I could have met him. I have the same problems he did in school and I wish I could ask him for advice. He died 22 days after I turned 3.

I can't wait for the movie, I hope it's as good as I think it will be.
