Did you hear?
By lunch time tomorrow everyone around Tucson will be talking.
Why you ask?
One of the All-time Arizona Wildcat football greats has decided to hang it up.
After 13 years of playing for the New England Patriots, middle linebacker Tedy Bruschi will be announcing his retirement during a press conference at 10:45 a.m. ET.
There are a few factors that played into his decision…
Age – At 36 years-old Bruschi is the oldest player on the defense and second on the team behind Joey Galloway, 37. The ultimatum probably went something like this…retire with dignity or be cut in shame.
Depth chart – A year ago the Patriots drafted middle linebacker Jerod Mayo out of Tennessee in the first round. He went on to become the NFL defensive rookie of the year. This off-season New England signed inside linebacker Paris Lenon from the Detroit Lions.
Good 3-4 defenses usually have no shortage of versatile linebackers on the roster. With more linebackers than the Patriots know what to do with, Bruschi finds himself the odd man out.
Nothing left to prove – The numbers speak for themselves…
Three Super Bowls, one Pro Bowl, 189 games
1065 total tackles (668 solo / 397 assisted)
30.5 sacks
18 forced fumbles
12 interceptions
59 pass break-ups
Four Touchdowns
2005 NFL comeback player of the year (stroke)
