Cemetery Crawl 4 - Part two

Amazingly, Kenton, Ben, Shawn and Amy made it back early the next morning and were ready to take on day two of the Amazing Cemetery Crawl 4. The teams met once again at Miller Park where it was decided that TEAM ZERO would now be riding with the KAOS KREW for the rest of the competition.

The envelopes were handed out and the second day of the crawl began by driving to Ehrenberg and placing flowers of the graves at historic Ehrenberg Cemetery. This cemetery dates to about 1862. There are about 40 grave sites, most without markers.

Detour #11 found the teams posing for photos at the jail house painted on the side of a building in Ehrenberg. The teams drove east to the Dome Rock exit where they had to #12 take a photo with the landmark of Dome Rock in the background.

Next stop was Quartzsite and the Hi Jolly Cemetery. The Hi Jolly Monument is in the pioneer section of the cemetery where Quartzsite pioneer families were laid to rest. Leaving the Quartzsite Cemetery, teams were asked #13 to take a picture of a CAMEL and #14 buy a rock from one of the rock sellers in town.

Back on the road and heading south, Detour #15 had  the teams stopping at Stone Cabin where they did a Chinese Fire Drill in the parking lot. They also needed to #16 take a picture of Castle Dome Rock and #17 take a picture of the green cannons near the Yuma Proving Grounds.

Teams turned east at Dome Valley Road and followed the zig-zaggy highway for about 13 miles. Along the way teams had to #18 take a picture of the Moore Farms Tractor, and #19 a pose for a photo near the Dome Valley Raceway sign.

Upon arriving in Wellton, the teams headed to the Wellton Cemetery. The small manicured cemetery had all flat tombstones and a grassy landscape. It was established in 1988 and in use as of today.   The teams were surprised when told they would be bound to their team mate in a three legged search for the tombstone listed on their clue sheet.

Once teams were dismissed from Wellton Cemetery they traveled 36 miles to Dateland where Detour #20 each team was required to buy a Date Shake to share. The receipt for their shake had to be marked after 1:15 PM.  Detour #21 found the teams posing near Painted Rocks 11 miles north of the l 8 freeway.

The next cemetery stop was at the Gila Bend Cemetery. Although this cemetery is hidden away, one can see is maintained regularly. The cemetery is mixed with old and new tombstones. The teams received a plastic egg with the scrambled clue to the tombstone they would be seeking at the next cemetery.

But first the teams had 3 more detours to complete.  #22 was to pose in front of the historic Stout hotel in downtown Gila Bend. Then it was on to #23 and the quirky Space Age Lodge where they had to pose for another out of this world photo. One more stop #24 was to pose with the dinosaurs along side of the road.

Now the teams headed east 32 miles to the town of Mobile to the little Mobile Galilee Baptist Cemetery. The tiny cemetery was used by the farm workers of Mobile. It is no longer in use and preservationists are trying to protect it from housing developers.

From Mobile, the teams were now racing to the finish line at Tempe Buttes Cemetery off of Broadway Road and the l 10. The teams were required to lock arms and place a US Flag on the grave of one of the US Veteran’s graves. Then they proceeded to the Memorial gardens and enter the labyrinth. The three teammates made three loops around the labyrinth and the first team to the center was declared the winner of Cemetery Crawl 4! Fabulous fun prizes were rewarded to the winning teams and consolation gifts were given to all participants!

We are currently seeking a production team interested in filming Cemetery Crawl 5 in April 2010 for a Halloween reality special.  The Amazing Cemetery Crawl, an annual event hosted by the MVD Ghostchasers, takes ghost hunters on a road trip through Arizona following rhyming clues, stopping at cemeteries, historic detours, and many tasks and duties to earn their way to winning prizes.  Along the way,  contestants learn about haunted sites, backroad cemeteries, famous gravesites, and enjoy an evening in a haunted location.  This exhausting 36 hour road rally is unlike anything else in Arizona.  The locations are amazing, the road trip hilarious, and the participants become seriously competitive.  This is a great opportunity to capture something rarely seen--ghost hunters having playful fun in the backdrop of the picturesque Arizona desert and its quaint ghost towns.
