Sutton, UK video game wiz Nick Hutt has regained the official World Record score on the 1985 Sega arcade classic Space Harrier, according to Twin Galaxies.
Verified via Hutt's submitted recording in Denton, TX on April 30 and announced on Twin Galaxies website, Hutt's score of 39,495,060 puts him atop the all-time Space Harrier rankings for a second time, regaining the title from fellow UK gamer Philip Campbell, who had taken the title away from Hutt last year.
The Space Harrier record has belonged to the United Kingdom since November 1985, when gamer Matthew Preece set a record score of 31,900,730. This record stood until August of 2005 when Hutt set a mark of 35,774,740, which fell to Campbell in May of last year.
Twin Galaxies is the official scoreboard for the world of video gaming, from classic arcade to modern console systems such as the Nintendo Wii and XBox 360. Currently based in New Hampshire, Twin Galaxies has been keeping scores since 1981 and tracking records on Space Harrier since it's 1985 arcade release.
