Yusra Tekbali was born to Libyan parents in Woodland, California. She graduated from the University of Arizona with degrees in journalism and Near Eastern studies and speaks Arabic and Spanish fluently. She has lived in Libya and is familiar with The Middle East and North Africa. Her first real job was working as a congressional staff assistant in the United States House of Representatives. She currently blogs for Muslimah Media Watch and is an active member of the American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee.
