Mac OS X 10.5.7 - Boosting Hackintosh Batteries

Are there secrets in the code?                            Thanks to ruiwen. Used under CC

For all of you (like myself) who have a netbook Hackintosh, there might be some benefits to tweaking and hacking the latest OS update to work for your non-Apple hardware. Wired is reporting that some people are getting longer battery life from this new update (notably with the MSI Wind). And not just a little, a lot. We're talking 3 hours and 45 minutes to just nearly 5 whole hours. That's a lot of extra time to procrastinate writing a paper before you pull out the power-pack.

A few voices in the MyDellMini.com forums are also reporting some battery life increases, although they're a bit more modest.

But what's more exciting is that it suggests perhaps the 10.5.7 update has been optimized for Intel Atom processors. Why is this a big deal? Because that means there may be a potential Apple product with an Atom processor in it.

This could mean more confirmation about a netbook / tablet / hybrid / whatever it is Apple will be coming out with soon. It's all speculation, of course, until the big Apple in the sky says something. But it's interesting none the less. June is right around the corner and that means there's a lot of waiting and seeing going on. I'm looking forward to it.
