HSUS Spokesman Michael Vick is the most notorious animal abuser
of our time. HSUS CEO Wayne Pacelle is coming to San Francisco
to champion Vick and to defend his decision to oppose shelter reform
legislation to save the City's neediest homeless animals being killed
in local shelters.
As the Humane Society of the United States embraces the most notorious animal abuser of our time and fights a proposal to save San Francisco’s neediest animals, the head of HSUS is coming to the City to raise money for his Washington D.C.-based group.
The controversial head of the nation’s largest and wealthiest animal protection organization in the United States is coming to San Francisco for an October 28 “Town Hall” meeting. Wayne Pacelle, the CEO of the Humane Society of the United States, will discuss, among other things, his new spokesman: dog-killer Michael Vick, the most notorious animal abuser of our time.
Can anyone imagine the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence embracing wife killer O.J. Simpson as a spokesman? Can anyone imagine the National Organization to Prevent Sexual Abuse of Children embracing pedophile John Geoghan as a spokesman? Can anyone imagine the Rape, Abuse, and Incest National Network embracing rapist Josef Fritzl as a spokesman? It is unthinkable. And yet Wayne Pacelle is asking animal lovers in San Francisco to embrace our movement's version of Simpson, Geoghan, and Fritzl as a spokesman. It is beyond obscene. It is unthinkable.
Pacelle says he will answer questions from San Francisco animal lovers about this and other topics.
I have a number of other questions for Pacelle. Why did he, through HSUS:
- Participate in the slaughter of some 150 dogs, including puppies, in Wilkes County, NC?
- Lobby to stop No Kill legislation in King County, WA?
- Support breed discriminatory legislation in Indianapolis, IN that would have led to the round up and killing of Pit Bulls?
- Tell USA Today and Newsweek that killing in shelters is acceptable and that No Kill was warehousing?
- Mislead the public about an epidemic of dog bites to convey the view that trying to save Pit Bulls was irresponsible and put children at risk?
- Tell the court to kill Vick’s victims even as he was asking people to give HSUS money so he could “care” for them?
- Leave New Orleans with tens of millions given to HSUS for the victims of Hurricane Katrina even while those animals were still suffering?
- Legitimize the slaughter of virtually every animal at Tangipahoa Parish animal control?
- Tell people not to adopt animals during the holidays, effectively accepting the deaths of 1,000,000 animals as the alternative?
- Tell the Randolph, IA community that HSUS does not have a problem killing stray cats?
- Claim that rescued dogs in Missouri should face a “pretty certain death”?
And especially important for San Francisco animal lovers, why is he opposing a No Kill San Francisco? Pacelle recently sent a letter to San Francisco’s Animal Control & Welfare Commission equating No Kill with hoarding and opposing shelter reform legislation that would save San Francisco’s neediest homeless animals.
Unfortunately, Pacelle has long been an apologist and enabler of shelter killing.
In the end, the real reason behind the “Town Hall meeting” might just have nothing to do with animals. This “town hall” format is often little more than a fundraising ploy which has been successfully used by other organizations to sap money from local donors and thus away from local rescue groups, and into the bank accounts of national organizations. And for HSUS, money doesn’t appear to be a means to the end of saving animals. It is the end in and of itself, the animals be damned.

hsus and him are so full of bull sh_ t its sickening.they forgot about the animals a long time ago.now its all about keeping him and his cronies, in his $250,000 a yr lifestyle. would waste my time with them.
Most people agree that violent crimes against humans is wrong; however, the reality is that most people don't see animals as worthy of life and respect as humans... why else are shelters allowed to systematically kill them? This is why comparing Vick to O.J. Simpson, John Geoghan, and Josef Frizl doesn't work (right now). People who understand animals' rights aren't the ones who need to be made aware, but the people who don't have much respect for animal life are. So, although I empathize with your feelings of extreme injustice, I implore you to consider that the attention one man can bring to the sanctity of animal life (in spite of his crime) is much more important and worthwhile than the interminable vilification which only brings more attention to the man instead of the issue.
It is beyond my comprehension how a person who is head of one of the largest humane organizations in the US can still speak out against successful No Kill strategies when these methods have been proven to save lives for over a decade. How does someone let his ego get in the way of stopping the killing? Is he afraid he will lose money if he supports no kill initiatives? That hardly seems likely. I just cant wrap my mind around his motivation.
BTW: The HSUS had a page on their website asking for comments regarding their anti-dog fighting programs. I posted a comment criticizing their support of Vick. When I came back to their website a few hours later, my comment had been removed. Others have told me that the same thing happened to them. Apparently, they only allow free speech if that speech agrees with them.
Vick's agent approached PETA, ASPCA and HSUS to become a spokesperson to prove to the NFL that "he changed and is redeemed" so he could play ball again. PETA was considering-but I did send PETA (as soon as it was available) the USDA report stating Vick admitted to throwing in family pets into dog fighting rings "because it was funny to watch". Vick was torturing animals for YEARS so this is no "mistake" but a lifestyle. PETA rejected VICK. So did the ASPCA. I sent HSUS the same report and they welcomed him with open arms.
Actually by glorifying Vick it sends out a clear message-if you fight dogs you get million dollar contracts and glory. In my opinion HSUS has not become the spokesperson against dog fighting, but became the NFL and Vick butt kisser.
Also keep in mind Vick lied IN COURT when first charged with dog fighting saying he was innocent-he lied. What makes you think he's being honest now???
I will never again donate a single cent toward HSUS.
In response to Jessicas comment, I believe reminding people of Vicks horrendous & repeated crimes is more important than Vick spending a couple hours telling kids dog fighting is bad.. now let me go cash another multi-million dollar check. How persuasive is it to those kids when Vick did it & is still making more than most of the population? How about enlisting someone who has always cared about the sanctity of life & always fought to protect animals? There are PLENTY of people available who fit this description who could reach young people.
Another thought: Pete Rose was banned from sports for LIFE for simply betting on games. Yet, Vick is back playing & on his way to making millions after participating in the HORRIFIC tortures & murders of many animals. Some of the animals he tortured are STILL suffering from the emotional and physical scars left by this man. They may never be able to have a life in a home because of him. Where is the justice in this?
HSUS has put Vick on a pedestal and in fact glorified a dog fighter showing if one fights dogs they get money and glory, which is exactly what has happened to Vick. Expect dog fighting to sharply rise as he struts his stuff on NFL and appears on his own BET reality show. Dog fighting is going to get so out of hand more and more municipalities are going to propose breed specific legislation as a means to combat dog fighting and vice. These dogs are used in dog fighting due to their loyalty and capacity to fight to the death, even with their faces ripped off (literally), and eviscerated. No other type of dog does that, which is why dog fighters use pit bulls.
Hey No Kill Houston: Sarah Palin did the same to me on her Facebook page. I simply called her a wolf killer and moose burger eating freak. Not only was my comment removed, but my account was permanently deleted from Facebook WITHIN FIVE MINUTES. So I guess HSUS and Palin have something in common in the censorship department. HSUS also has a YOUTUBE page which I criticized the use of Vick and I did it politely. The comment of course was never used and yes I was polite. ONLY GOOD COMMENTS ALLOWED. That's censorship.
See petdefense.wordpress.com and every single thing you never knew about H$U$ is there. How Craigslist is run by animal rights, how ASPCA and H$U$ are pushing forfeiture/seizure laws, how the rights to own, buy, or sell or choose your animals is being taken over by animal nutcakes but calling it "welfare" when it is not welfare. The 3 worst AR bills in CA were just veto'ed down by Governor;the SHAC 7 lost their appeal re AETA and Animal enterprise Protection Act;Boudreaux is suing Louisiana SPCA for killing every dog they owned, on "allegation" and Boudreauxs were acquitted. This killing/seizure is wrong. H$U$ is about killing, not saving. Katrina $$ is funding H$U$ anti pet laws.
