San Antonio's Camp Humane first week a success

Kids love animals.  Add animals to summer camp and you have a winning combination!  San Antonio Humane Society's first week of Camp Humane has come to a close with a resounding success.

Nearly 30 children, ages 8-10, spent their days this past week learning about animals such as dogs, cats, reptiles, birds, and even donkeys!

Representatives from Sea World, Critter control, and dog agility handlers worked with kids to teach them about the safe and responsible handling of animals, and information about feeding, habitats, and care needs.

Cathy McCoy, SAHS Director of Public Relations and Outreach shared,  "Our Humane Society Veterinarian, Dr. Courtney Hurst-Bridgeman, gave the kids advice on becoming a vet, and about opportunities and the importance of helping animals in their future career."

Meanwhile, the children were having fun!  Erin, age 10, said "My most fun time was when we got the tour.  I love the Humane Society!  I'm learning a lot here and wish it wasn't over.  I loved learning about reptiles and the cats, which I didn't know about.  I also loved the first day with the dogs.  This was awesome!"

It's amazing how much the children learn while having a good time.  Emily, age 8 said  "What I liked about camp was all the cool animals that we got to see.  I also like the dog training that we got to do.  It was such a good camp!"  Emily also shared that she couldn't wait to come back next year. San Antonio's Camp Humane seeks to educate children about animals and critters in general.  Who says learning can't be fun?  Certainly not me!  (I wonder if I can sign up, too?)

See video below of the first week of camp.

There are still a few slots open for the remaining weeks of camp.  If you're interested in signing your child up for fun with the animals, visit Camp Humane for details
