How far is too far to go to save your pets? When does your life separate from theirs and become more important? One lady will go as far as she can to save her pets and without them, she feels like she would have no life.
Last week, 2 beautiful and well-cared-for Huskies found themselves among new company and at a local animal shelter. Why the change? Because their owner could no longer care for them or herself. Since 2009, the woman has fought to take care of herself and her beloved pets. The problem is that she's been fighting the economy and what seems like a long string of bad luck. She lost her job in 2009 and struggled for years to right her situation, only to lose her house to foreclosure. Jobs and houses are great but the love of a pet is something that this lady can not stand to lose. Sometimes in life the only thing we can count on day-to-day is the bond and unconditional love between ourselves and our furry family members.
Shelter staff and volunteers have noticed that in the past few days the woman has been coming to the shelter and visiting her dogs. Each time she arrives, the dogs instantly perk up and become excited. While you may find it unbelievable, we are as important to our animals as they are to us. At that moment when a pet becomes yours, there is a link that forms and brings with it promise of a lifetime of devotion. The pain and longing in those three souls is evident. The woman walks through the shelter until she finds herself before the cage that holds her babies and she stands in front of it, emotionally drained. Sadly, right now the only way she can see her dogs is if she goes to the shelter. She has no home and no vehicle. She actually has walked at least 5 miles each way, just to see her dogs for a few moments each day.
The shelter staff and volunteers are working very hard to reunite this family but they are seeking help from the community. A rescue group, foster or boarding facility located near the dogs owner would be greatly appreciated. Since she can't afford to have them back with her, she really wants them to be within a close walking distance to where she is staying. She is currently residing at the near the 5000 block of Lister in Kansas City, Missouri.
There has also been a ChipIn set up to help cover the funds associated with care of the dogs. It is the hope of the KCMO area animal rescues and volunteers that they can temporarily house the Huskies until their owner can get back on her feet.
