Womens Studies Trivia!
Movie star Angelina Jolie's most famous movie character has been honored in Europe.
Lara Croft -- the video game action hero brought to life in two movies by the actressin her famous "Tomb Raider" sequels -- now has a street named after her as a tribute in the UK.
According to Monsters and Critics,
The town of Derby in England had a new road to name and it turns out that Core Design, the company that created the Tomb Raider video games featuring treasure-hunting Brit archaeologist Lara Croft, is based in Derby.
So, after a vote by the local residents, it was decided the street will now have the name Lara Croft Way.
There is no word yet if Jolie, who is currently in Paris filming her new movie The Tourist, will make the trip to the UK for the dedication ceremony.
However, many of the green celebrity's think it would be pretty cool if she and partner Brad Pitt both did (and brought the kids).
MORE ABOUT LARA CROFT IN TOMB RAIDER
Jolie co-starred with father Jon Voight in the first film.
Rumors that the next edition of the film will focus on Lara Croft in her teenage years and will star actress and Armani underwear model Megan Fox have many fans disgruntled.
Although Fox has gone under the plastic surgery knife in order to look more like Angelina Jolie several times, her acting talent and private personality leave quite a bit to be desired. Fox has even being accused of copying Angelina's tattoos.
Anyone working with Angelina Jolie seems to feel she is very talented, hard working, genuine, and charming; reports about Fox claim she is moody, difficult, rude, obnoxius, and completely vain with no talent.
As such, fans who follow the Tomb Raider character feel that casting Fox -- despite her younger age and physical similarity to Jolie would ruin the character (possibly bringing an end to the film series due to Fox's talentless personality).
Angelina Jolie took the role of Lara Croft and made her a female icon. Her ability to take on challenging physical roles and to make her stunts look both natural and effortless while playing a character who would certainly qualify for a heroine and green celebrity status if she were real was the ideal casting for Jolie.
Lara Croft is an Indiana Jones type of female adventurer and explorer who hunts treasure for its protection (rather than profit).
In real life, Jolie travels to third world countries on behalf of the United Nations and is not daunted by living modestly in the local areas.
Fox is not happy on movie sets with her luxury trailer amenities. When traveling in Egypt, she was furious that the direct Michael Bay arranged a staff trip to travel to see historical Egyptian monuments and artifacts on a guided tour.
Celebrity gossip sources seem to express a unanimous opinion that Jolie is unhappy about the thought of giving up the Lara Croft role to Fox (who made her movie debut running and screaming in the blockbuster B movie Transformers and gained fame thanks to posing in mens magazines before, during, and after Transformers II).
However, Jolie has not openly made comment. Her father publicly pointed out that Angelina is much prettier and far more talented than Fox, and indicated to outcast his daughter from the role would be a tragedy for the series.
What do YOU think? Should the producers and directors of any next Tomb Raider movie sequel consider an actress' off screen character or should they simply focus on finding a younger Angelina Jolie look alike? Should they scrap the idea of doing a teen sequel while Angie is vibrant and available to play the role of a thirty-something, forty something, and fifty something hero out of respect for the role and Jolie as an actress who made the movies such a hit?
