Gabriel Johnson update: persons of interests, polygraph test, and extradition for Elizabeth Johnson

Gabriel Johnson has not been seen since December 26, 2009. Police believe that Elizabeth Johnson, Gabriel’s mother, boarded a Greyhound bus to Daytona on December 27, 2009 and did not have Gabriel with her. Police found Elizabeth at a youth hostel in Miami where she was arrested for custodial interference. Authorities have described her as uncooperative with the investigation and she has not provided any information that would help find 8 month old Gabriel.

Now, police have identified two ‘persons of interests.’ Authorities state that they do not necessarily believe that Jack and Tammi Smith have Gabriel, but are withholding information pertaining to their whereabouts. There are mixed reports stating that the couple took a polygraph test today. Though many media outlets state that the couple took the lie detector test, the East Valley Tribune from Phoenix, Arizona states that police confirmed the couple did not take a polygraph test, but were questioned by authorities. Jack and Tammi Smith had Gabriel Johnson in their possession on December 9, 2009 for 6 hours when Elizabeth Johnson claimed that the baby’s father, Logan McQueary, had kidnapped him. She told the story to police and filed a police report. Jack and Tammi Smith have made several appearances on national television before and after being named as persons of interests in the case.

Elizabeth Johnson remains in the Dade County jail and is scheduled for her next court appearance on January 19, 2009. She waived extradition rights and the state of Arizona has two weeks to come and claim her or else she will be released.
