Chelsea King suspect John Gardner linked to other attempted abduction cases, possibly Amber Dubois
Amber Dubois was only 14 years old when she disappeared on her way to school. On Friday, February 13, 2009 Amber Dubois, described affectionately by friends as a ‘nerd’ and by family as a studious child who loved animals, to spend time at home, and enjoyed school disappeared.
The day Amber Dubois vanished was a special one. She was a member of the Future Farmers of America and was about to give a down payment for a baby lamb that she would raise as part of her class work. Her family knew that she didn’t run away. Not the day that she left for school with the check, excited that soon she would be caring for the baby lamb.
That day never came. Amber Dubois never made the down payment, never made it to school, and has never been seen since.
Now, a little over one year later, the suspect charged with raping and murdering 17-year-old Chelsea King and the attempted assault of a 23-year-old Colorado woman is being linked to other missing children cases. Though he has not been officially declared a suspect in Amber Dubois’ case, other attempted abductions have been linked to him and police are investigating a possible connection to missing Amber Dubois.
A 23-year-old Colorado woman was attacked on December 27, 2009 when she was on the same jogging path where Chelsea King was last seen. After John Gardner’s arrest on Sunday, February 28, 2010, the woman contacted authorities and named Gardner as the man who attacked her.
Amber Dubois' father spoke about John Gardner yesterday following John Gardner’s arraignment. He said that police are working Amber and Chelsea’s case hand in hand. He hopes that Gardner’s arrest will mean a break in Amber’s case.
According to ABC News, police are reexamining their unsolved missing children and attempted abduction cases including one where the suspect pulled a gun on a 16-year-old girl and tried to force her into his car. The girl had a composite sketch drawn of the suspect but police had few leads. The girl contacted authorities after seeing recent reports of Gardner stating that he was the man who tried to abduct her.
