Aveion Malik Lewis believed dead, Brandon Lockett charged (video)
Aveion Malik Lewis, the little 2-year-old boy who was the subject of a Virginia Amber Alert is believed dead. Now, his stepfather, Brandon Lockett, 24 has been charged in the case. Police had been searching for Aveion since January 14, 2010, when his stepfather called 911 and said that three men had broke into his home, tied up a four-year-old little girl, and knocked him unconscious before fleeing with Aveion and leaving a ransom note on the back of a utility bill asking for $10,000. Now, police say that Aveion was dead before Brandon Lockett dialed 911.
Brandon Lockett was taken into custody yesterday and admitted that Aveion Lewis was dead. He has not revealed where Aveion’s body is and a widespread search continues to find him.
According to a statement from the Roanoke Police Department, teams continued to search throughout the night and are investigating wooded areas, and the banks of the Roanoke River.
After Brandon Lockett’s confession he has been charged with felony child neglect, improper disposal of a human body, and obstruction of justice.
Readers who are following the case have speculated as to why Brandon Lockett confessed to Aveion’s death but has not led them to the body. It is possible that he fears additional charges will be added if Aveion’s body is discovered and the cause of death is determined. It is also a possibility that he is trying to negotiate a plea deal.
