Amber Alert update: Aja Johnson alert effective in Oklahoma (photos, videos)
An Amber Alert has been issued for Aja Johnson in Oklahoma. (see back stories here) It is important to realize a national Amber Alert system doesn’t exist, and every state has their own set of rules and criteria for issuing Amber Alerts. (See here for how Amber Alerts are determined) An Amber Alert had been issued for Aja Johnson in the state of Texas, but that alert has since been cancelled. This does not mean that Aja Johnson has been found or that she is not still in danger; she is. An Oklahoma Amber Alert remains in effect for Aja Johnson.
New details regarding Aja’s suspected kidnapper, Lester Hobbs have been released and he has been charged with the murder of Aja’s mother, Tonya Hobbs. Since there is no national Amber Alert system, each state must determine if a child’s kidnapping qualifies for their state issuing the alert. Aja Johnson was kidnapped from Oklahoma, therefore there is an Amber Alert issued for her in Oklahoma.
If there is a credible sighting of an abducted child in another state, that state may choose to issue a joint Amber Alert. Since Texas felt that there was no verifiable proof that Aja was in their state, they cancelled the alert.
There is still an Amber Alert issued for Aja Johnson in Oklahoma and this means that people throughout the nation should be aware of Aja Johnson’s case and be aware of her photo, Lester Hobbs photo, and the car that Lester Hobbs is believed to be travelling in. Due to the confusion that cases like Aja’s, many feel that it is time for a national Amber Alert.

Lester Hobbs is a white male and stands approximately 6 ft tall and weighs 190 lbs. He has brown hair, and eyes with a receding hairline, and is a convicted felon. He should be considered armed and dangerous.
Aja Daniell Johnson is a white female and 7-years-old. She stands 4 feet tall and weighs 65 pounds. Aja has brown hair and brown eyes.
Lester Hoobs is believed to be driving a 1992, white Toyota Paseo with the license plate number 577-BPW. If you spot the vehicle call the national tip line established through the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children at 1-800-THE-LOST (1-800-843-5678). You may also call 9-1-1.
