FUNDERBURG STADIUM
The Belvidere Bucs took charge of their game against Rockford Auburn from the first play of the game as Kyle Harris took the opening kickoff 85 yards downfield for a touchdown that led to a 58-14 win over the Auburn Knights.
During a pre-season interview Buc Head Coach Matt Weckler had said that Belvidere was working on the Buc defense which dominated Auburn. Linebacker Stephen Mead led the Bucs in the game with 6 tackles including two QB sacks. Belvidere’s Jake Hayes finished the night with 4 tackles as Auburn lost three fumbles, one each to Josh Kasper, Anthony Hernandez and Zak Knutson.
Two different quarterbacks led the Bucs on a running attack by Marcus Gooden and Harris with Gooden carrying the ball 9 times for 70 yards and Harris logging in 6 carries for 47 total yards.
Belvidere Buc Reid Greiter caught a pass for a 2 point conversion in the first half and then finished with up the Buc scoring in the 3rd with a 79 yard TD reception. Cody Colquette caught two passes for Belvidere in the first half for touchdowns one on a 17 yard catch and the other on an 8 yard toss by Buc starting QB Troy Vandenbroek.
The Bucs showed their depth on offense as back up quarterback Aaron Slaven moved the Bucs down the field and then took the ball over the goal on a 1 yard QB keeper setting up a 51-6 lopsided halftime score.
Auburn scored their touchdowns on a kick off return and a 1 yard run by Terrance Bel. The Knight's lone 2-point conversion was made by Brandon Mesch.
The Bucs sophomore team beat the Knights 20-12 with the Belvidere Freshman Bucs making a perfect series for Belvidere as they won 34-6 over Auburn.
The win puts the Bucs Varsity Bucs at 1-0 in the NIC-10 conference at the top of the conference along with Boylan and Hononegah.
Belvidere’s next opponent is the Hononegah Indians on Friday, Sept. 3rd at Hononegah High School.
