During Hybridfest: Green Drive Expo in Madison, Wisc, Wayne Gerdes of CleanMPG.com, considered by many to be the father of hypermiling, gave a presentation about how he and his team were able to acheive over 1,400 miles on a single tank of gas in a Ford Fusion Hybrid this past April. The mpg equated to over 80mpg!
Gerdes offers a number of suggestions for drivers who want to increase their fuel economy. He recommends purchasing a fuel-consumption device to keep track of what kind of mileage a car is getting. Gerdes also says slowing down, using brakes less and not using the car's air conditioner will help.
