Auto repair has always been Carolyn Coquillette's passion. As owner of Luscious Garage in San Francisco, she's combined that passion with a committment to sustainable practices.
Her repair shop is Clean and Green certified and uses The Natural Step plan for sustainability. Their online, paperless administration Hyspace—custom built by LG, is the first of its kind for the industry and eliminates piles of paper and toner. Remaining supplies come from The Green Office; furniture is second-hand; the floor is made of recycled tire.
They also recycle nearly everything—all fluids, metal, packaging, and parts (with help from EcoHaul and Evergreen Environmental)—working with suppliers towards a zero-waste goal.
So it was with great pleasure to speak with Carolyn at Plug In 2009 in Long Beach Calif., where she introduced me to the Jonah Roll-painted Toyota Prius, which she has upgraded into a plug in hybrid electric vehicle using Plug In Conversion Corp's nickel metal hydride battery conversion kit.
The PICC battery is three times the size of the standard Prius battery, allowing 25 miles all-electric driving at 70 mph and Carolyn and her LG is the exclusive installer in the Bay Area!
