The Georgia Department of Transportation on Wednesday voted to proceed with the development of a multi-use trail in Southwest Atlanta as part of the Beltline’s green space initiative.
The 1.4 mile trail, once completed, will run alongside the abandoned L&N Railroad tracks in Atlanta’s Westview neighborhood, and provide jogging and biking paths to residents.
Atlanta’s PATH Foundation will head up the efforts, in conjunction with Trees Atlanta which recently inked a deal with Beltline officials to begin a five-year process of removing kudzu and debris from the area.
Overall land acquisition for the Beltline is currently ahead of schedule, with nearly half of the 22-mile corridor having been secured and the project’s first major park under way. Construction of two additional parks is expected to begin soon, and seven miles of interim hiking trails are expected to be open to the public in early 2010.

Can't wait to hike these trails!
I'm excited about all the green space, but aren't we concerned about the safety on these trails? I can just imagine a hobo uprising in their former hobnobbing grounds. More police!
no need to pick on the west side.
Very true TAADE, very true. show the west side some love.
