Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed will join members of Atlanta Beltline Inc. and other local groups on Saturday in the ceremonial groundbreaking of D.H. Stanton Park.
Stanton Park, located at the corner of Boynton Avenue and Martin Street in Southeast Atlanta, will be the first of a series of parks being built as part of the Beltline, and will become the city’s first energy-neutral park. In order to qualify as energy-neutral, a project must take environmental aspects into consideration and focus on low-energy usage during all phases of construction.
The park is part of Atlanta Beltline's 25-year commitment to urban renewal in the city of Atlanta, which includes investments in parks, trials, greenspace and transportation.
The renovation of the park, funded by City of Atlanta Park Improvement Bonds and a donation from the Arthur M. Blank Family Foundation, will convert the eight-acre plot of land into a usable greenspace and feature a playground, ball field, multi-purpose field, splash pad and display a unique piece of public art.
Mayor Reed will be joined by Atlanta City Councilmember Carla Smith as well as representatives from the Atlanta Department of Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs and Friends of Peoplestown Parks.
The two-hour event is open to the public and begins at 10am this Saturday, March 27th.
